Throughout the year we will add important news and information here:

HALLOWEEN

HAS students are invited to celebrate Halloween at school on Thursday, October 31. They may come dressed in their costume. Grade 1 students will host the Halloween Assembly at 9 am. Families are welcome to join us for our parade of costumes in the gym.

As you prepare costumes for school, please consider the following:

  • weapon-like accessories must remain at home - these are not allowed on school busses or in the school

  • keep ‘bloody’ and zombie-like make-up to a minimum. This extreme make-up can be disturbing and/or scary for some children in our school-your child can enjoy this on Halloween evening instead

  • send your child in costumes that allow him/her to move freely and access the bathroom independently

  • please leave your child’s hands free of gloves - sanitizing and handwashing occur often throughout the day

  • students will go outside for recesses, so costumes need to allow for weather-appropriate clothing

  • November 1 is a non-instructional day for students. Staff will spend the day participating in Professional Learning.

THANK YOU!

Thank you to Happy Mart and Mr. Young for the generous donation of ice cream to HAS students.  The school appreciates the support of our wonderful community.  Students will enjoy this treat on October 31st.

LOST AND FOUND

Lost & Found Slide Show

(once open, click on slideshow)

The baskets are overflowing with student hoodies, jackets and assorted clothing.  Please clearly label all of your child's belongings. This makes it  easier for staff to return 'lost' items to their owners. If you are missing items, please check the baskets at each entrance to the school. Clothing not picked up by the end of October will be washed and donated to Bagatelle.

COOLER WEATHER IS HERE

Please ensure that your child(ren) arrives dressed for the weather.  With cooler temperatures, they will need heavier jackets, toques and gloves. We are outside unless there is a significant weather warning and temperatures are below -25C.  This includes the Early bus students who will continue to play outside when they are dropped off.

HAS FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITY - IGA GIFT CARDS

Horace Allen continues to offer IGA Gift Cards for purchase as an ongoing fundraiser. These gift cards can be used at IGA, Sobeys and Safeway.   The school receives 5% back for all cards purchased. Please stop by the school office - Mrs. Snider has gift cards for you to purchase. Gift cards are in increments of $50 & $100. Your support is appreciated.  Funds collected are used towards field trips and busing costs.

LICE IN SCHOOL

Now that we are back in school, please be diligent in checking your child's head carefully and continue to do so regularly.  If you do notice lice on your child's head, we encourage you to please treat promptly and thoroughly.  Some families choose to inform the school if their child is infested, and we appreciate this information so we can let the rest of our school community know.  We do keep the name of the student(s) confidential in order to protect the privacy of the family.  However, this is strictly voluntary.  We do not always know when there are lice in the school.  Please contact Community Health Site at 403-562-5030 if you have any questions.
