Education Minister Visits LRSD
Alberta Minister of Education Adriana LaGrange visited Livingstone Range School Division on September 19, 2019. The Minister took a student-led tour of W.A. Day Elementary School in Fort Macleod before meeting with the Board of Trustees and Senior Administration at the Division Office. MLA for Livingstone Macleod, Roger Reid, was also in attendance for the school tour.
"It was our pleasure to host Minister LaGrange at W.A. Day School and highlight the great things that are happening in our school," said Principal Dave Fender. "With a great staff, with the Leader in Me program and our partnership with Kids First Family Centre, it was an honour to have our students brag about their school."
Minister LaGrange is touring each school division in the province in an effort to build relationships with school boards and better understand their needs. "I love getting a feel for our school boards and their communities," she said.
The Board of Trustees and Senior Administration highlighted for the Minister some of the many unique programming opportunities in Livingstone Range School Division, including the Leader in Me program at W.A. Day, FACES summer school experience, Livingstone Ski Academy, and a robust Career & Technology Studies program. They also communicated their concerns about capital planning, transportation, funding, and rural education challenges. In turn, Minister LaGrange shared her commitment to excellence in education for all students in Alberta.
Superintendent of Schools Darryl Seguin expressed the Division's pleasure at having the opportunity to meet with the Minister face-to-face. "Our meeting with the Minister was very productive. We shared our concerns, emphasized the needs in our jurisdiction, and began a positive working relationship with Minister LaGrange."
